Flight from Yugoslavia: Frank Ellenberger's Recollections by Kurt Ellenberger published on 2017-10-02T17:55:32Z My father's recollections of his flight from Yugoslavia in 1944-45. Tito issued an "ethnic cleansing" order, and the communist partisans began slaughtering the ethnic Germans, many of whom had been there for over 100 years. The Ellenberger's were in Kapetanovo-Polje, and my mother's family was in Hrastovac. They were also forced to leave or die. (Picture is from a wedding in Kapetanovo-Polje in 1934, two years before my father was born.)
