The March of the Living is an educational event that brings thousands of Jewish youth worldwide to Poland and Israel to mark two of the most significant dates in the modern Jewish calendar.

In Poland, the students' visit culminates with the "March of the Living" on Holocaust Remembrance Day, as they march together the 3-kilometre distance separating Auschwitz from Birkenau. The students march in silent tribute to the hundreds of thousands of Jews forced by the Nazis to cross vast expanses of harsh terrain under inhumane conditions-the infamous "death marches."

In Israel, participants celebrate the creation of the State of Israel on Independence Day.

"Songs for March of the Living" contains melodies that concern the Holocaust and Israel, much of which were composed or performed by March of the Living participants from Canada. The Habonim Youth Choir is based at Toronto's Congregation Habonim synagogue, a small synagogue founded by Holocaust survivors.
