Quen
Quen.
Quen meaning 'familiar' in Vietnamese, and in Chinese, Quen is a last name meaning: mountain pass, to close, to shut, to turn off, to concern, to involve. My Mother and Father gave me the name meaning Priest.
I go by the alias ACIDSTRUCK when performing in the underground Techno scene. The whole alias is inspired by the sound of the 303 we call ‘ACID’. I developed real respect for electronic music once I found out how it all started, especially keeping in mind how vast the music scene now is.
I focus on a mixture of uncommon techno styles that started in the late 1980s. Alongside with Acid-techno that originated from Acid-house, Detroit styled old-school, analogue and modular techno, even Garage and styles like Dark Disco, or as we call it, fucked up party music, that originated from Germany.
I decided to become a DJ when I was 16. I was first introduced to House-music when I was 14, and by the time I was 18, underground styles like Drum&Bass, Trance, and all sorts of Techno caught my attention. I chose to devote my life and effort into music, and since then, the music is what drives me.
I am preferably a closing DJ. Times between 12 AM and 12 PM are my prime times, which already gives more of an after-hours type of element to the selection.
My preference BPM for closing is 130-160. All-over Preference BPM 115- 160. I try to anticipate and read the room and try to set the mood according to the party. I would regularly start off an opening set with House and/or Dub Techno between 115 BPM 125 BPM, depending on the setup and time and setting. Underground late nights times like 9pm to 12AM, preferably 125-135 bpm. Midnight hours can range from 130- 140. All-over favorite BPM for closing is 140 for times, like 12 AM to 12 PM. Depending on my mood, the party, and the crowd, I would take it up near the end of the party to 144-160 or slow it down to 130– 138.
