Corpus Clock by Counterpoint Printworks published on 2022-08-11T23:23:28Z Corpus Clock (2018, rev. 2022) 10'15” for 6 channel audio and video projection (stereo reduction) As a nod to an altered sense of time and the body, Corpus Clock draws reference to the asana Shavasana (“Corpse Pose”) in hatha yoga and modern yoga. This meditative and contemplative practice at the end of a session is transformed with chance-based bell and chant sounds. These ritualistic source materials continuously cycle; drifting across the stereo field, imperceptibly modulating, and cross-synthesizing with each other. A desolate landscape is populated by strange blends of objects flowing between the familiar and unfamiliar. The goal of the work is to play with levels of consciousness, permanence, memory, and the mind's eye. Corpus Clock was first designed as a pedagogical work for the Algorithmic Composition with Max/MSP Summer Workshop at CCRMA (Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics, Stanford University). However, following years of utilizing the patch to showcase capabilities of indeterminate polyrhythmic streams with sample playback, a structure was imposed to form a full, dramatic rendering as a stand-alone composition.
