Eden by Tallessyn published on 2020-06-15T02:00:59Z (Lyrics below) This is a song I wrote before moving from Basel, Switzerland back to the US. It was written during Donald Trump's presidential campaign, in which he promised a border wall. The song is about the symbolism of how the old medieval wall in Basel is now a garden path, which represents the ways in which the Swiss have built a comparatively equitable and just society, where all have enough, and which creates a true sense of abundance and the desire to reach out and help others. Eden Words and music by Tallessyn Zawn Grenfell-Lee, 2017 There used to be a wall, a wall built of fear To guard and keep safe the ancestors here And the mountains made a wall, keeping out, keeping inside Keeping some secure, while others fought and died There used to be a wall ‘round the city on the Rhein But now there is a garden; flower, tree, and vine Now there is a garden Refrain And I walk through the garden, I walk along the Rhein And all of it is part of me, all of it is mine But when I cross the river, to go across the sea The garden will live on in me Somewhere there is Eden, full of life and peace A safe place, a place of hope, of welcome and release Of people reaching out to a world in need Reach out to welcome in the Christ child refugee Somewhere there is Eden: all are clothed and fed With baskets overflowing, to share the fish and bread Where the hungry Christ child is fed Refrain And brought into the garden, to baptize in the Rhein To spread the peace of Eden all the world around I’ll take it all inside me when I go across the sea The garden will live on I have climbed the mountain, I’ve been baptized in the Rhein I flowered in the garden, I shared the bread and wine I carry it inside me as I cross the sea The garden will live on The garden will live on in me Genre Folk & Singer-Songwriter
