2) Keep It Close by A Doubtful Sound published on 2014-06-23T22:35:11Z Not many bands can claim to be 'internationally sourced'. A Doubtful Sound formed somewhere in the mid 00's in Christchurch, New Zealand – a beautiful city on the Pacific coast which is slightly earthquake prone. Following the catastrophic quake in 2011, Hamish Woodside (guitar, vocals) and Ollie Law (drums) were faced with a big decision. They had to leave the ruined city so, naturally, they moved to Bristol, UK. Now inadvertently a two piece, they carried on writing and rehearsing but it wasn't until they found James Williams (guitars) that their sound started to settle. They started rehearsing more frequently and discovered Jake Bright (bass) at their rehearsal studio's front desk. After asking him to put an advert out for a bass player on behalf of the band, he invited himself in to play instead. This move completed the quartet and gave birth to some monstrous live shows and acclaimed EP 'Make Loud Sexy'. With an uncompromising sound, A Doubtful Sound have been compared favourably to alt rock and grunge heavyweights of the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters and Soundgarden. 2014 hails the release of their new record, 'Best is Over'. Launched on 5th July, it sets a new gold standard for self-produced underground music. Made on a budget of basically nothing in music industry terms, it proves that even without any label affiliation, A Doubtful Sound have the ability to throw punches alongside the top rock acts of today.
