AfroMendez Tshepo Maponya Johannesburg As young as he is, he's never afraid to go too deep or include his emotions in his music, his emotive musical selections are his own therapy. Having grown up in a small village north of South africa and later moving to johhanesburg, both enviroments rich in indurstial sounds and a natural atmosphere, became his main source of inspiration, formulating the foundation for his music & art AfroMendez's productions are filled with a mutlitude of his own unique, funky field recordings. Elements of his sound include kitchen spoons, tin buckets, microwave, thatch brooms. "You can't get those type of sounds from modern day synthesizers': His sound also features Synth works and distorted bass drums all witch became infused with his own love for electronic music iwhich results in him having a mixed spectrum of musi cal influences. His ambition was, and still is, to eradicate the stereotype that "Electronic Music is a genre for the white population", even though the genre is mainly a playground fijr white Dj's, AfroMendez firmly believes that he can be the maverick of not only the South Afrcan music scene but internationally as well. Today, this translates into sets where he picks apart and infuses together all the pieces of his music that he loves best; beautiful synth work, funky field recordings and occasional vocal hooks.... All on top of a pronounced foot-shuffling house beat. A very active member of his local community, AfroMendez is no stranger to the ups and downs of a small town music scene. Though he loves playing in nightclubs, festivals and special events, his love for music goes beyond the spectrum of mixing tunes. As a producer, he has found many ways to express himself Musically.
