LYRICS BELOW. Tribute to my city and the city where millions live, Newcastle upon Tyne. My songs R mostly about all things Newcastle, Newcastle United FC, Bobby Robson, the excellent NE band Lanterns on the Lake, Alan Shearer, George Stephenson, The Tyne Bridge and the Mucky Angel, ....well, you get the idea!
'The Mucky Angel' refered to in the song is the Boer War memorial in the Haymarket, an angel mounted on a high plinth that has been the home to countless pigeons over the years, which is why she's SOOOOO mucky. 'The reform bill guy' mentioned in the song is Lord Grey, the NE man who passed important voting reform legislation in 1832. Like the Angel he is also on a plinth, but half a mile away on top of Monument Metro station, Grey Street - lucky old Lord Grey & the pigeons, eh?. We don't do too badly for plinths in the NE! The NUFC mentioned is Newcastle United, the citys premier football club! (photo of the Angel on this page-through glass of Newcastle University building-taken by Roy)

Newcastle My City by Roy Mc Calvey
1) Two thousand years by the river Tyne, Stephensons Rocket on the railway line
Alan Hull at the City Hall, Lanterns at the Cluny, giving their all
2) Go to Grey Street, the Reform Bill guy, looks down at us from the North East sky
There's a mucky angel doon the Haymarket and I ask of her, 'are you orl reet, pet?'
CHORUS
Newcastle, my city. This is the land I call my own
Newcastle, sometimes tough and gritty, this is the place that I call home (der der diddley)
3) St James Park and the crowd does roar, NUFC have to score
Alan Shearer and Bobby Robson, left their mark and won't be forgotten, oh no, no way
Newcastle my city, this is the place where my daughters grown
Newcastle, lights they shine so pretty, always miss them when I roam (starstream starstream)
