The Kimberley by BCSC published on 2020-09-16T05:01:23Z The Kimberley project was produced over three remote residencies undertaken by Madelynne Cornish and Philip Samartzis through Tura New Music’s Regional and Remote Residency program between 2010 and 2012. The sound and video works reflect a rich and troubling encounter of a place undergoing radical transformation through regional development, climate change, and complex societal tensions related to economic opportunity, and deeply rooted cultural practices. The works comprising this website were undertaken in collaboration with Indigenous people in communities of the Dampier Peninsula, Warmun and Kununurra. In carrying out these works with Indigenous communities, Tura and the artists acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the lands visited respectively being the Bardi, Gija and Miriwoong people, their ongoing connection to and care of the land and honour their Elders past, present and emerging.
