I've spent the last two years endeavoring to advance my production skills in order to create entire songs from scratch without any outside help. My goal was to achieve full creative freedom and gain the ability to express myself more thoroughly than ever before.
Though my efforts proved worthwhile with "Who's To Say?", I realized I was only scratching the surface of what I could create when I began to combine my other influences with the folk sound I already decided to pursue.
With lyrics inspired by a heartfelt poem I penned last year, "December" required the fullest extent of my best-making and mixing skills to create. My vision for the track was undoubtedly ambitious with multiple layers of acoustic guitars, a full drum kit, bass guitar, piano, horns, synths, and a fully fledged orchestral string section at the end. Still, after countless hours of work at home and in the studio, I am both excited and incredibly anxious to share the end result with everyone I know.
Lyrics:
You bring the winter
And you bring the cold
I tried to warm myself with nothing more besides a spark
A sickly, weakened flame, dancing meekly in the dark
There's danger in these heights, but I welcome all the harm
Sinking into snow and ice, the embrace of your arms
You take what you and go, and bury me beneath the snow
You take what you want and go, but you'll be back before I grow
Cause you are December, you bring the winter
You bring the frost that numbs my heart
You are December, you are the winter
You bring the frost that numbs my heart
You are half of me, yet I wish we never met
I bury you in self-deception, hoping to forget
But your tracks still decorate the snow, your voice lingers in the wind
Against whispers like an avalanche, I can't hope to defend
Cause you take what you and go, and bury me beneath the snow
You take what you want and go, but you'll be back before I grow
Cause you are December, you bring the winter
You bring the frost that numbs my heart
You are December, you are the winter
You bring the frost that numbs my heart
Just take what you want and go, but don't come 'round here no more
Once, I reached the peak, and once, I felt fulfilled
But that was just a distant past, from here, it's all downhill
Though the seasons change, my world is frozen still
The sun shows towns beyond, but I'm enthralled by winter's chill
