Tastes Like Freedom Remixed [REMIX EP Preview: CHAOS IN THE CBD, CARISTA, TORNADO WALLACE, YU SU] ] by Rhythm Section INTL published on 2021-08-17T17:41:27Z 30/70 and Rhythm Section team up once more to deliver their most ambitious remix package to date. Callouts to friends and family of the label and collective offered up a selection of some of the most exciting electronic music producers in the scene and the fruits of the collaboration have arrived. The remix package continues 30/70’s practise of rebirthing their music in a contemporary club sound but this time takes that intention a step further, veering into unexpected and more experimental territory for the band, calling in a new era for their musical endeavours. The record opens with a duo that need no introduction, label legends Chaos In The CBD work their magic on TLF, playing on Josh Kelly’s drawn out noir-esque sax notes and Allysha’s whispering tones to create a sultry and sophisticated house number in their typically infectious style. The pair first made their mark on the Rhythm Section audience with 2015’s classic EP ‘Midnight in Peckham’, followed swiftly by ‘Invisible Spectrum’ in 2016. They return to the label 5 years on to deliver another impeccably smooth and moody dancefloor jam. Next up Utrecht native Carista enters with the sound of the Netherlands for a new wave electro trip. She first took the club scene by storm with her ability to captivate dancers, making international impact with her raw energy and eclectic, soul-stirring selections as a DJ. Carista has since gone on to hold residencies on NTS, Amsterdam’s Red Light Radio and most recently BBC Radio One, alongside building her reputation as a curator behind the United Identities label and platform. This dynamic and punchy lo-fi interpretation is all about the drums and creating space to let Allysha’s vocals shine before introducing futuristic synth lines to up the ante. "When TLF first reached my ears I was instantly amazed and inspired by the song. An excellent music production by 30/70 and Allysha’s soothing voice easily touches your heart immediately when hearing it. A true masterpiece!" - Carista Tornado Wallace takes us straight to a hot pink sunset on the long lost festival floor with his Red Face Mix of Tastes Like Freedom. Masterfully building the tension for nearly 5 minutes by teasing various TLF components before melting into a blissfully euphoric breakdown. After initially making moves as a frontrunner in Melbourne’s dance music community, Tornado Wallace’s distinct and perceptive electronics found him in constant rotation on both hemispheres in the pre-pandemic world, spending most of the year based in Berlin to accommodate an increasingly busy DJ schedule. Releases on Second Circle (sister label to cult Amsterdam archivists Music From Memory) and Gerd Janson’s Running Back have secured his position as a premiere producer of lush, Balearic beats. Closing out are the cerebral and ethereal sounds of Yu Su’s Midnight Blossom Remix, where the Kaifeng-born composer, DJ and sound artist continues her exploration of ‘fourth world’ ambience and left-field dance music. Yu Su describes her emotion-packed productions as “organically groovy jazz-bient expeditions between coasts” and we couldn’t be more ready to float through that journey. Slowing the pace right down for this final rework, Yu Su leans into the healing potential of the instrumentation, creating a moment of calm to end the EP and perfectly complimenting the record’s eclecticism. After her stand-out track on the label’s 2020 ‘SHOUTS’ Compilation, Rhythm Section fans have been eager to hear from Yu Su, and now their calls have been answered. credits Genre House Comment by G9-Basement Studios.
