It was a octatonic scale that was composed half of traditional scalar features, very much like Phrygian, and half chromatic movement (ex: E–F–G–A#–B–C–C#–D). At the end of the video, 12tone challenged us to write a piece using the scale, here is my take. I really tried to play up the "two faces" aspect making a AB form. The A section is slow and very wide, using an expansion of the scale. The B section is fugue like, making use of the chromatic aspects of the scale. This is excellent. Keep that text "composer" in your name/title, because damn it, you deserve it. You are a budding master at composition, only one notable point being your growing mastery of tonality. The piece achieves much moodiness. It has clear mood changes and peaks of mood or drama. Use of different chords and dissonance is clear, and also probably different keys. I'm praising so highly because the music remains very musical, very musically appealing through all the many places you go. You do different things, like the mood achievements, and the things you do work well; they are effective. Your work has the sound of originality. It's very much not ho-hum; there's strength, stridency and other strong qualities to the music, in addition to its gentle side. You have real talent. Don't make me go down there to Texas because I found out you stopped composing!! 2019-06-07T18:06:13Z Comment by Christopher Larkins | Composer I really like the fugue section. 2019-06-04T13:56:03Z
