Joshwa Aaron Dawson A.k.A. Da' BrAnch was born in Downtown Charleston, South Carolina.
He grew up in North Charleston (ChuckTown). At the age of 12 is when he first began writing Christian music, singing songs in particular. Christian rap was introduced to Joshwa in the 8th grade through the talk of some of his peers. It wasn't until his freshman year of high school that he fully developed an interest in it. He recalls, "I remember taking trips to the local mall to the Christian bookstore after school to ante up on my cassettes and cd's. At that time, I was only listening to Christian Contemporary, that's all I knew about then. During one of my trips, I discovered that they had a Christian rap section. I would set aside a portion of money to buy this new found music. I started buying record after record of this Christian rap. I discovered the Cross Movement, Grapetree Records, Unity Klan, Jah-Word, B.B. Jay & T-Bone to name a few. After listening to various artists, I fell in love with the genre. I started rapping myself, developing my own craft, freestyling mostly. Eventually, I started writing songs and performing them at my school's talent show events. I created an enormous buzz, the teachers even the principal had a crave for my music. From that point on, God gave me a mightier passion and assured me that this was something that HE wanted me to do. I knew that emceeing was handpicked from THE MOST HIGH for me and HE confirmed and established it through many people as a God-ordained call. As a following result, I received and accepted a ton of invites to minister and perform at local events and stages around North Charleston (ChuckTown) and Athens, Georgia (i.e. stage performances at a few Convoy of Hopes, a few gigs and an interview at The Sterett Hall, an outdoor performance/ministering at the Tanger Outlet mall, a few street preachings and rap performances/ministerings at several local parks etc). CHH became one of many ministerial venues." He's been writing, ministering, & performing in the Culture ever since. In the year 20-12, he started to classify his rap art as Hebraic Christian. He states, "I had a big time Epiphany, going all the way back to 2006. And a major part of it stemmed from social media. I discovered new knowledge of self which led me to my 2nd conversion in 2012 and gave me a desire to share its compacted truths along with the Gospel message touching on subjects of all sorts regarding its reality." At this present time, he's working on his debut double-disc studio album entitled "The Life & Times of Da' BrAnch part 1: Kingdom Status." He also has plans to record with a 8-man group he co-founded and established in 2004 called Da' BruthaHood (i.e. Da' BrAnch (Self), Prayze Lyfe (PL, David Montgomery), Lex Qube (Alexis Hobbs), Troy (Troy Worrell), Justified Prophet (Tiori Rufus), Hope (Jonathan Jager), yoke Easy, & Aposoul (Phrozen Poet, Jason Lee). ~{Joshwa D.}
