Charles Xavier
Portuguese American composer/producer/percussionist Charles Xavier and San Francisco resident is working hard reaching out to venues and festivals about his label’s two new releases. The Xman is reaching out to curators for the creative arts that book Jazz, Creative Music or Percussive Arts performers in the USA. I’m available to educate musicians in the business of music/audio/production and perform as a SOLO Electronic/Acoustic artist at festivals, art centers and venues across America.
From SIRI to BOSCO TOUR 2016!
With our 6th release coming out in the Fall and a major promotional campaign in the works, the Xman will be performing in several targeted states this year!
Unconventional music for unconventional minds!
Xavier’s music is “a total sensory experience that immerse audience members in layers of textured sound, allowing the mind to escape to new realms of serenity.” written by Edward David Jennings
In 1982, Xavier co-produced an EP with Glenn Feit (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gary Numan, David Byrne, Bobby Womack), The King Has Come, with Xavier and the Messengers. The album, which features a caricature of Ronald Reagan, is a blend of New Wave, reggae, rock and jazz. It received the Editor's Choice award from Downbeat Magazine. In the mid-'70s, Xavier created an audience and a following on the East Coast with his avant-garde jazz band Satori, appearing in clubs, colleges, festivals, TV and radio.
A jazz drummer since he was sixteen, Xavier was born and raised in New Bedford, Massachusetts, where the East Coast jazz scene shaped his musical tastes. He studied arranging and composition at Berklee College of Music in Boston. At the Creative Music Studio in Woodstock, New York, he studied drumming with Jack DeJohnette, Bobby Moses, Stu Martin and Jumma Santos, and creative ensemble performance under the guidance of Karl Berger, Dave Holland, Kalaparusha, and John Ambercrombie.
