A Monk Returns Home by cis minor published on 2013-05-17T20:27:20Z Returning to my native village after many years’ absence: Ill, I put up at a country inn and listen to the rain. One robe, one bowl is all I have. I light incense and strain to sit in meditation; All night a steady drizzle outside the dark window -- Inside, poignant memories of these long years of pilgrimage. (Ryōkan, 18th century, translated by John Stevens) Flute: https://soundcloud.com/soulful-woods Piano: https://soundcloud.com/cis-minor This lovely music came to me more or less as a gift: some weeks back I recorded the piano (https://soundcloud.com/cis-minor/21st-century-monk-free). The incredible Soulful Woods felt inspired to create an enchanting flute expression - we already planned to do a collab for some longer time. From the first time I had heard his music I was intrigued by the sound, the authenticity and the depth of emotional expression in his flute play. His music is pure and thorough. Listening to his music is bringing peace and awareness to me, but still it breathes some sense of solitude and sorrow. Reminds me of Morricone's slow themes, so pleasing, so unique and so tender... (I believe I put a comment on this track a few days ago, but my Firefox after recent upgrade occasionally stops working [I switched to Chrome already], so maybe it didn't reach the server after all.) 2013-06-07T22:45:45Z Comment by Pianodao Lovely track! 2013-05-25T07:36:47Z Comment by steffen☆yoshiki beauty. 2013-05-21T15:27:23Z Comment by Diederik de Jonge Beautiful Peter. The mood really suits the title and image. Very enjoyable :) 2013-05-21T15:06:19Z Comment by Science Teheran One of the greatest strengths of the monkey track was this wonderful game of silences between chords and melody lines. This allows the listener to imagine something so important in music. So important that many people confuse silence with lack of musical creation. It also allows building new melodic lines over, as is the case at hand. And if done with elegance, sensitivity and mastery of "Soulful Woods" the result is gorgeous. Great work and collaboration. ;) 2013-05-21T07:45:01Z Comment by Patrick E. Namaste 2013-05-18T03:55:26Z Comment by Cirro-stradivarius/Collecting Pool Outstanding use of pauses in this track. The piano phrases have a pause between them and the gap is filled so beautifully with the flute musings. Wonderful work. 2013-05-18T01:23:02Z Comment by Milana Zilnik Piano and flute blend so well, making such a dramatic feeling.. great piece, Peter! 2013-05-17T23:51:05Z Comment by Skye Milan A masterful combination! 2013-05-17T22:54:42Z Comment by Joe Zazulak literally breathtaking 2013-05-17T22:44:37Z Comment by jensfelger outstanding! 2013-05-17T22:19:40Z
