Color School Color School Washington Hippie Groove with an Inner City slam. DC based indie band, morphing as we speak. Why? Because music is a matrix and a language, and it would be boring not to. Life sways and music is a vibration. So let's all do that together. Bill Kalish - drums Jerry Hergenreder- Guitar, vox Tim Williams- bass on Tour Renell McEwan (RNL)- poet Artemis Thompson- hip hop Poet Damon Wright- Percussions Gary Butler- Percussions Prior History Three guys released the first EP ( Iridescent). Charles Steck was the original base player (X High Back Chairs and Velvet Monkess). he actually came up with the name. Anyway he left to do other things and Bill and I (Jerry) continued as a duo with drums. We keep meeting people along the way who also want to play songs that we write. So it is all fun. Paul has been playing with us for about two years. Stephanie has it been hitting it hard with us since MayDay 2019. ( and that is another story). And you never know when the rap crew RNL and Ardemus join the kerfuffle live. I dare you to keep still when that happens. Bill (drummer) and I grew up in DC. We played in a band called the Young Caucasians in the 80s where we were weekend warriors, touring on weekends and being messengers during the week to pay for the go. We released indie rock, though some called it punk (not sure why). We lived on College Radio and CMJ charts. We played Go GO in the DC circuit to pay for our studio sessions. Local DC Go GO Pros were so tolerant and welcoming of us. After a year of them beating us up and teaching us about The Pocket, we no longer sucked and could do stadiums with them like at North Carolina A&T with Trouble, UTFO, The Real Roxanne and yes Shanon…. and us go-go white boys. Bless them. We could play rock venues and open for bands like The Ramones, The Ventures, The Tubes, 10,000 Maniacs, They Might Be Giants. Bill can likely add some names. Bit of a Blur really. LOL The Reagan Inaugural, we were in freezing non insulated Chevy van driving to Boston where we recorded with producer Eban Kelly who produced New Kids on the Block and Deadado. Sadly he made us sound like a drink commercial which did not really work ….for anyone. We were part of the DC scene where every musician was a messenger. Our band name is a tribute to the Washington School of Color and Light. As we are from DC, we wanted to pay homage to something SO DC that was not political. Art is cool…and the name Horace and Dickey's was taken. So Color School it was. Hope you enjoy our new singles.
