Favorite Quote: „Music is not produced in a vacuum; it responds to the conditions in which the composer and performer finds themselves. Hence, a pragmatic understanding of music's societal impact plays a pivotal role in understanding the evolution, sophistication, and spiritual matrix embodied throughout the various transformations and migrations of Black music.“
- The Embodiment of Sound, Satch Hoyt (2022)
Advice for the DJs, producers and artists of our community:
I'd love to see even more kindness, excitement over other people's success and sharing resources among peers. Participation in nightlife stands in inseparable relation to class oppression, gender and race relations. Work on collectivizing the means of musical production, knowledge and status. Working in nightlife can be challenging. So make sure to work out regularly, drink enough water, take breaks and be mindful.
With this mix MI$$ JUNIA asks for you to please learn more about and consider donating to:
❁ The BSWC (The Black Sex Worker Collective) (https://www.blacksexworkercollective.org/home)
❁ Hydra Café (https://www.hydra-berlin.de/cafe)
The rights of sex workers – especially Black, trans and other severely marginalized populations – are constantly under attack, with state and police repression as well as precarious living conditions being on the daily agenda. Our communities are not immune to harmful SWERF [Sex Worker-Exclusionary Radical Feminist] rhetoric and sentiments which is why I want to keep giving valuable institutions such as The BSWC and the Hydra Café visibility.
