Demetrius Hernandez is a talented DJ and producer who discovered his passion for music at a young age. It all began at his 8th-grade graduation pool party, where he witnessed a friend seamlessly mixing records on a pair of Technics belt-driven straight arm turntables with a Radio Shack mixer. Intrigued by the art of DJing, Demetrius was immediately captivated, and his friend's equipment found a permanent place at his home.
With a pair of turntables in his possession, Demetrius embarked on a journey of self-discovery, spending countless hours practicing in his basement. As he honed his skills, he mastered the art of mixing two records together, an intricate task on his belt-driven turntables with knobs for matching beats per minute (BPM). His dedication and determination paid off when he started receiving requests to DJ at small neighborhood events like sweet sixteen, backyard, and block parties.
Seeking further growth and experience, Demetrius joined the mobile entertainment industry, which proved to be a pivotal moment in his career. It was during this time that he learned how to read and engage with diverse crowds, adapting his music selection to create the perfect atmosphere. In this journey, Demetrius formed a strong bond with his emcee, Ali Damisi, who became not just a friend but also a lifelong brother and production partner.
Demetrius' thirst for the club life experience was fulfilled by his childhood friends, Mada and Moody. Together, they traveled to iconic destinations like New York, Cancun, Vegas, and Miami, granting Demetrius the opportunity to showcase his skills in renowned New York-based nightclubs such as Club Expo, Centro-Fly, Metropolis, Webster Hall, Exit (Ktu Events), and Funkbox NYC. Collaborating with acclaimed DJs like Skribble and Chris Moody on the production of the Saturday Night Dance Party on 103.5 KTU, titled Skribble's House, further solidified his presence in the industry. Notably, his remix of Sneakymood Records' "Anthony Acid & Chris Moody - Get Crazy" received recognition and praise.
Throughout his career, Demetrius has been fortunate to find mentors who have nurtured his talent and guided him to new heights. Lenny Fontana, a prominent figure in the industry, opened his parents' basement for Demetrius to practice, even teaching him how to create club demos on a reel-to-reel recorder.
Additionally, John Kano, known for his work as Havana Funk, took Demetrius under his wing, spending countless hours in the studio teaching him the intricacies of the digital audio workstation (DAW) Propellerhead Reason. This newfound knowledge empowered Demetrius to further his remixing skills and resulted in notable releases, such as his remix of Nikki Kano's "Run & Hide" and his single "Barrio Noise ft. Donny Q & Chase (Sole & Spirit Mix)" on Taste the Jam Records.
Aimee Newman, a respected figure in the music industry and a pivotal connection during Demetrius's time at Skribble's House, played an instrumental role in introducing him to influential individuals in the business. Currently managing The Jungle Brothers, Aimee afforded Demetrius the opportunity to remix their single "The Red Cup (Demetrius Hernandez Turnt-Up Remix)."
In 2023, Demetrius established Sole & Spirit Records, a label created as a platform to showcase his productions and collaborations. Together with a talented team of singer-songwriters, musicians, and producers, he aims to release original music that will make a significant impact in the dance music scene.
Demetrius's journey has been driven by his unwavering passion and commitment to his craft. As both a skilled DJ and a producer, he believes that it is through his talents and the collective efforts of his team that they will truly shine. With a dedication to continually push boundaries and create innovative sounds, Demetrius Hernandez is poised for an exciting and successful future in the music industry.
