The Love We Share by Eightfeet published on 2016-07-28T12:49:03Z Funny story how this all came about. Mike decided to throw the biggest 4th of July party in the history of 4th of July parties. "We must have a band," coaxed his inner monologue. So with only days remaining before the big event. Mike, Chris, and Casey formed "The Bastard Cigarette Breakers." Admittedly this was an ambitious endeavor, but we knew that with just a little practice and a singer named Goat, we could be the finest cover band the world has ever known. The party quickly changed from The Bastard Cigarette Breakers' debut world tour into the Bastard Cigarette Breakers: Kareoke Band. We played two songs: Old Apartment and Pearl Jam's Last Kiss (a cover of a cover; it was our darkest hour). Soon after the party, Goat was fired, old band members were brought back from the dead, and cover songs were ditched. After several violent arguments over the name of the band, we waded our way through "Short Bus," "Braxton Hix," "Mr. Furley" and countless others until Eightfeet was born. After months of song writing in the Eightfeet dungeon, the fans demanded a public appearance. Eightfeet finally emerged to throw a party of epic proportions. Actually there were only about twenty people there, but the band finally stepped into the spotlight and our rabid fans responded with unbridled enthusiasm. The success of the party prompted other parties that grew in attendance each time until the good people at the Alexandria Police Department shut down the basement nightclub. It was fun while it lasted, but the band decided it was time to speak to the people en masse. Eightfeet's first truly public arena was a blue grass bar somewhere in the woods of Kentucky. We were hesitant at first, but it was a charitable event for a friend of a friend of the band who had been paralyzed in an ATV accident, so we agreed. Since we considered ourselves ambassadors of good will, we decided that it was time to give the hillbilly's the gift of rock 'n' roll. News about Eightfeet spread quickly and the next performance would change the face of Northern Kentucky University forever. It was a fraternity rush party for Phi kappa Tau. Since the band was already pretty popular with the local college crowd, this was the perfect opportunity for more exposure (not to mention sorority girls). The show was great! Shae had worked the crowd into a frenzy and decided he wanted to leave them with something they would never forget. He and Casey silently acknowledged what was about to happen and before any of the other band members realized what was going on, Shae and ten fraternity guys were smashing a guitar in front of the stage. And that is how the legend was born. Well, that is about it really. It all started at a 4th of July party with a guy named Goat and has now erupted into a healthy college following, guitar-smashing gigs, and radio play in metropolitan areas in the Midwest.
