about THE STUD (taken from official website):
The Stud is YOUR BAR. For over 50 years we have been at the cutting edge of San Francisco nightlife with our one-of-a-kind parties, killer cocktails, eye-popping drag and burlesque shows, and welcoming community events. Serving the cheapest queer drinks, including happy hour specials 5pm-8pm, at the longest bar in SoMa, we'll make you feel right at home and downright festive.
The Stud Bar, located at 399 9th Street on the corner of Harrision, is a queer venue and nightlife hub in the SOMA district of San Francisco. The bar is owned and operated by an 18-person worker-owner cooperative. From serving drinks and playing tunes to cleaning floors and checking IDs, Stud Collective members do it all.
A brief list of some of the queer icons who have appeared at the Stud: The Weather Girls (aka Two Tons o’ Fun), Sylvester, Etta James, Bjork, Lady Gaga, Ana Matronic, Justin Vivian Bond, Michael Stipe, Lady Miss Kier, RuPaul, and Charo.
Come dancing at one of our parties, celebrate good times at our happy hour, or perch at the bar and find a new friend.
The Stud Collective: VISION
Keeping San Francisco queer by providing a safe, welcoming venue for creative expression, celebration and nightlife.
The Stud Collective: MISSION
Nightlife must remain at the heart of San Francisco queer culture. We celebrate and preserve the legacy of the Stud bar while cultivating creativity and operating ethically and according to our established co-op values: Self-help, Self-responsibility, Democracy, Equality, Solidarity and Equity. We are committed to a sustainable, radically reimagined business model that leverages the collective energy of a highly-engaged ownership community. We have a commitment to diversity in our membership and programming, through which we create an inclusive space.
THE STUD is the first worker-owned nightclub in US history.
