Frazer Scott’s first passion is Opera. He has performed roles, understudies and as chorus with many opera companies including British Youth Opera, Grange Park Opera, Opera Holland Park, European Chamber Opera, Minotaur Opera and also the Westminster Opera Company, working under the leadership of renowned conductors, such as Stephen Barlow, Lionel Friend, Clive Timms, Phillip Thomas, Peter Robinson, John Lubbock and Stuart Stratford.
Most recently, Frazer sang Geronimo as part of British Youth Opera's critically acclaimed Secret Marriage. (4* 'The Independant')
Furthermore, Frazer was Scottish Opera’s Jupiter (cover) for their national tour of Orpheus in the Underworld, produced in partnership with Northern Ireland Opera.
Other recent UK and International operatic credits include L’Aubergiste: Massenet’s Cherubin (dir. Stephen Barlow/GSMD Opera Course [cover]), Martino: L’Occasione fa il Ladro, Rossini (dir. Stuart Barker/Minotaur Opera) Papageno: Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (c. Stephen Barlow), Seneca: Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea (c. Andrew King/Birmingham Conservatoire); Leporello: Don Giovanni (EChO - Spain), Antonio; Le Nozze di Figaro (Lionel Friend).
Frazer made his Birmingham Symphony Hall début with the CBSO, singing Mozart’s Requiem, in April 2009. This led to another engagement with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra; this time a concert of Stravinsky music in which Frazer performed alongside renowned pianist, Peter Donahoe.
Furthermore, on the Oratorio platform, in collaboration with the BBC Concert Orchestra/BBC 2's Birth of British Music series, Frazer was a featured soloist, singing excerpts from Haydn’s Creation, conducted by Charles Hazelwood. Other Oratorio and Concert appearances have taken Frazer all over the UK, where he has performed the Bass solos in Haydn’s Creation, Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs and Fauré's Requiem to name but a few....
In 2010 Frazer went on to perform the Bass soli in Stravinsky's Les Noces under the direction of Leonardo Gasparini as part of a tour to France, appearing in venues such as Auditorium Saint Germain, Paris and the Rouen Opera House.
Over two consecutive years, Frazer was delighted to perform as part of Graham Johnson’s Song Recital Series at the Guildhall School of Music. Furthermore, he was a founding Song in the City singer; a series devised by Gavin Roberts and performed in St Mary Le Bow, London. Frazer recently made his St Martin’s in the Fields début, performing Schumann and Wolf songs with New Zealand pianist, Catherine Norton.
As part of Iain Burnside’s Unknown Doors, Frazer made his first foray into the world of acting, playing the roles of Wilf and Dr Steen. The work was devised, directed and produced by Iain and performed in the Barbican Pit Theatre. Frazer re-joined the cast when the piece was further developed and performed - under the new title of A Soldier and a Maker - as part of the Cheltenham Festival in 2012. Frazer looks forward to joining the cast - again - to recreate the role of Wilf as part of a BBC Radio play in early 2014.
Frazer’s media experience ranges from appearances in BBC Documentaries to recording jingles for advertisement campaigns!! Frazer was proud to be the voice of Danny Kelly’s afternoon show jingles on BBC WM, and made many other appearances on various BBC WM Faith shows. Frazer is currently a featured voice on the US Kettle Brand Chips adverts.
Frazer has taken part in many master-classes with some of the world’s most prolific vocal talent, including Yvonne Kenny who described his performance of The Catalogue Aria from Don Giovanni as ‘simply charming’. He has also benefited from coaching sessions with Graham Johnson, Elaine Kidd, Liz Marcus, Robin Bowman, Jane Robinson, Mark Packwood and Liz Rowe.
Frazer reached the finals of the Reginald Vincent Lieder Prize (Birmingham) in 2009. He was awarded the Agnes Duncan Trophy for ‘Most Outstanding Vocal Performer’ at the Glasgow Music Festival on two occasions and also competed in the Allie Cullen Memorial Prize competition. Most recently, Frazer won 1st Runner-up and the Audience Prize at the Wigmore Hall final of the Jackdaws' Maureen Lehane Vocal Awards.
Frazer currently studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, currently in the first year of the Opera Course, with Prof. Susan McCulloch. He graduated with a first class honours degree, plus the Margaret Pascoe Scholarship for 'Outstanding Vocal Prowess', from the Birmingham Conservatoire in 2009. During his time there, Frazer trained under the guidance of Henry Herford.
