A Darker Wave: - "Frederique has an amazing feel for sound dynamics and a great ear for building tracks. So melodic, so much feeling as he puts his mixes together. He's not afraid of quieter sounds, and contrasts those with louder parts and makes it work really well."
Excerpt -
The darker side of House, with the occasional smile. The music that I mix should grab me somehow, make me want to move my body, nod my head, tap my feet, at least engage me, or even make me dance. Most of it is in the bassline, and the harmony. I'm not looking for something new by definition, but I'm open for anything that's different. I'm a sucker for melancholy, darkness and mystery.
In the beginning there was Jack -
I have been DJing since the 90's. Learned it on vinyl, SL1200's and a Dateq LPM 7.2. All very straight forward gear for today's standard, but high quality stuff nevertheless. I embraced digital when it matured, went from an S4 to a DDJ-T1, and an S8 now, connected to a Yamaha A-S500 that drives my wonderful Monitor Audio RX2 speakers. I have no musical education or history.
Why -
I DJ for the fun, the love of the music. For the kicks. To unwind at the end of a hard working day. I've been recording mixes on a regular basis since mid 2015, uploading a mixes at least once a month on Soundcloud.
.1k Series Mixes -
Most of the music that I use in my sets comes from artists that I follow on Soundcloud and Beatport. Finding music like this does result in the best mixes to my ears, but it takes a lot of time. With a regular (no 925) daytime job, a wife and two daughters, time is sometimes scarce. To overcome this, I recently started what I call the ".1k Series". In this series, I mix selections from top-100 (".1k" .. 1/10th * 1000 = 100 - I know it should be written as k1, but the association with the fighting sport was too obvious for me) lists released by well known digital outlets. I scan through these lists and select those tracks that comply the first paragraph above. These series will generally produce more accessible-to-listen-to mixes and so they will likely attract the less experienced listeners.
Reminder Series Mixes -
There is so many good music today, and there is so many new music every day, that music is quickly forgotten. I truly think that's a shame, and I've been wanting to do something with this for a long time. These mixes are mostly made on the fly, where I select tracks that 'just fit' at that moment, and where track age is of no importance. This means that mixes in this series can contain tracks of any date, but usualy somewhere between 2008 and current time.
Dark Series Mixes -
The darker sounds of House are my favorite by far. In these series of mixes I focus on those sounds exclusively.
You -
If you decide to listen to one of my mixes here, have a little patience. Don't skip through the mixes. Put one on, and let it work you(r) (mind). Download any mix on this page in high quality 320kbps MP3 format. All mixes should be downloadable - if they're not, let me know and I'll fix it.
