Cillian Foster
Dublin
Hailing from Dublin City, Cillian Foster is considered to be one of the most exciting new Artists to emerge from the City in a decade.
Cillian, recently became a solo Artist having been a member of a 'much touted, next big thing' band and made the courageous decision to emerge from the shadows as his own man.
He had no great master plan other than to "pull some favours owed to me and make some great music for music's sake". Already having built up kudos from the support and appreciation of esteemed acts such as Aslan, Don Baker, Relish and more, he simply was "grateful for the love, but I couldn't carry into the studio ideas or expectations for the album. It took everything I had to forget what I had become and allow ‘the me’ today to emerge. I had to give myself permission and be completely responsible for the outcome".
Cillian's sound is a throw back to real bands and musicians. But, nothing here is obviously retro. Citing his heroes in Bob Dylan, Paul Weller, Curtis Mayfield, the Stones... there is nothing contrived about his delivery, instead he comes from a place of honesty, integrity where the Jam, The Clash, The Beatles are hanging out and having a party.
So now we establish what his music is not, what is it?
It's poetic, it's edgy, it's raw, it's blistering, it's soul, it's love, it's beauty, it's greatness blossoming, it's truth.
More than that it's Cillian's truth, his gospel, his deliverance.
Cillian captures the true spirit of modern day Dublin, from the hard days and nights of every lover in working class Dublin. There is no romance here, but there is love. There is no protest. There is no sell here, only the facts and others are catching on. Something indescribable is day life of an Artist and Philosopher and here but there is passion and truth, his truth. Cillian is believable and more importantly, understood.
Live and on record, in the face of bland and boring dressed as new and exciting, his truth will shake things up. His honesty will penetrate or resonate depending on who he speaks to but one thing is undeniable, there will be an effect to his cause.
"I'm just me, doing my thing. There is only one me and that's cool, but, there are many, many like me and this album is for them and when they hear it, they'll know it. When they know it, something wonderful will happen. I've seen it already" as he starts to chuckle with controlled excitement.
