Ghengis Grimes Ghengis Grimes St Helens Ghengis Grimes were formed from the ashes of local band Kiss The Prezident in 1994 when drummer Fen left. The name Ghengis Grimes was taken from a nick name that Reg Holdsworth gave to his battleaxe Mother-in-law 'Maud Grimes' in Coronation Street. The existing members Messer, Gaz, Phil, Knocker and Kiv decided to take a fresh approach and composed a new set. After two drummer changes (Daz and Dicko) and bassist Andy Pennington replacing Big Phil in 1996, Ghengis settled into it's most successful and longest manisfestaion as 'Mark II + III' with drummer Knocker leaving to be replaced by Ant Fildes in 2000. Tormented/demented keyboard player Kiv left to finally go nuts in 2001 and the band split to form the jazz infused Second Sunset. Ghengis reformed for some gigs in 2008 with guitarist Timmy Howard and powerhouse drummer 'Knocker' Neil James... Ghengis have now come full circle and are back to the Mark II line up of Messer, Gaz, Andy, Knocker and Kiv and have been playing a few undercover gigs since 2012.
