Thanks to RosesAreBlue for permission to borrow some lyrics from A Winter's Waltz . If you listen carefully you can hear her ghosting in and out of this song where I used elements of her vocal from In a Lovers' Storm.
The Mermaid's Tale
The great retreat of the ice some twelve thousand years ago gathers pace. A shaman makes one last visit to a cave on the shoreline, before it floods forever, to bid farewell to the spirits of his ancestors and apologise for failing to halt the rising sea.
He attempts a final ritual of such power it attracts the attention of a mermaid. Horrified by his attempt to control the sea, the mermaid sings her own magical spell, far older and more powerful...
Chapter 5 The Mirrored Smile
Life giving Sea,
never knowing how
her touch might feel
Calm or tempest blow,
gentle summer breeze
or blizzard with a wild wind
Mark this rising tide,
prayers of blood and kin
why does no God talk to me ?
Move from the known, for a dream, troubled in stone
Losing all that we know
Dreams can speak, to the bold, the improbably meek
Holding all that we know
Now, high the Sea,
I'm running scared of all
her mood might be
Paint, and fire dark,
leave their mark
upon the cold stone
One flame with me,
comes the sea
to take me down
Potion philtre, familiar will rise...
I put on my skin and I dance // The sea, to your song, will not dance
Fish in the ocean, star in the sky
Here in my bones I can dance // The sky, to your song, will not dance
Sweet Gaia guide me to conjure and mark
Here in your dream I can dance // Here in your dream, I will dance
Safe course through this dangerous moment and dark...
Scale, bone, skin, stone..// Storm, wind, sing, true
Dark spell, slave to the dance
Tree, rune, wolf, moon.........// Blow, sharp, fin, hand
Black heart, slave to the dance
Cave, deep, bear, sleep.........// Heart, song, sea, name
Lost soul, slave to the dance
Leaf, wood, blade, blood......// Blind, tongue, dark, game
Ocean, Slave to the dance
Charm, what sound is this ?
See the girl,
the mirrored smile
Her song, magic holds
a spell unfolds
to the sound of the sea
Now, her touch unsure
to my brow
to lay me down.
There are a few ideas that were never fully developed,
Coming soon.
