Carl Reinecke - Elegy - Glenn Morrison - Bechstein Live Performance - WOLFREC003B by Glenn Morrison published on 2018-09-04T17:26:26Z With over 5.5 million streams on his live recording of Beethoven’s ‘Moonlight Sonata’, Glenn Morrison has made an imprint specifically catered to more classical piano recordings - both recorded live in studio halls, as well as recorded at his private studio - Alpine Mastering. We have made an effort to showcase diferent types of pianos and microphone settings in order to mix up the recording feel and texture. Furthermore, here are Glenn Morrison personal field notes from the various live recordings on this release from Wolfe Records - Debussy’s ‘Clair De Lune’ has a peaceful tranquility that starts off the LP with sustained pedal motifs throughout and the ebb and flow of the crescendos in the midsection. Kabalevsky's ‘A Little Song’ is an emotionally thoughtful piece with melancholy chordal changes and it requires a very delicate touch. I hope you enjoy my interpretation and variation on this from one of my favourite composers from the 20th century. Anatoli Kolomiyets ‘A Little Waltz’ has a staccato simplistic feel and its melancholic overtones contrast nicely with this duality. I wanted to experiment a touch with the midsection and my timing falls out of the normal 4/4 time signature for several bars, before returning back to its monochromatic tempo rhythm. Carl Reinecke’s ‘Elegy’ is wonderfully thought out, heavy in emotion, and would fit perfectly on a movie score. I performed on a Bechstein grand piano with heavy pedal usage to add dramatic effect. Finally we have Henry Purcell’s ‘Hornpipe Z. 685’ and George Frederic Handel’s ‘Impertinence’ which carry a similar motif and archetecture - staccato uplifting piano pieces great for relaxing and focusing.
