Miggy (Monks on Junk) Miggy Jorge Perth DJ MIGGY Miggy began performing as a Disc Jockey in Perth from 1990 beginning at Network then establishing himself as resident of the Berlin Club in 1991, Breakbeat is the name that has come to define his sound and is the style he claims found him. Miggy was a big part of early Dance Party [Rave] culture on the West coast. Playing regularly at Ohm Energy, Source and Ragga Bone events then promoting and hosting the Elevation series of parties. During this period finishing 2nd to Greg Packer in the inaugural W.A.M.C. (West Aust. mixing Championships) & worked at DaDa Records in this critical period when Dance/Club Music & Culture was establishing itself as a genre of its own. Next came AQUA where Miggy proved he could streamline his sound into commercial applications at this somewhat intimate venue compared with previous residencies. It was at KRUSH where Miggy refined his sound. Highlighted by loose funk, aggressive soundscapes and dark monotonal grooves, it was a remarkable departure from AQUA. Hard Breaks had never been more comfortable or prosperous than the late night/early morning sets constructed by Miggy in this iconic club . Around the millenium period (1998-2001), toured China, Taiwan Macau and Hong Kong shamelessly working for British American Tabaccos promoting 555 cigarettes. in 2001, returning to Perth and launching the live electronic act, Monks on Junk (the name highlighting a DJ career proliferated by over indulging hedonism with clandestine overtones) In a town not popularised by too many original live acts let alone electronic ones, Monks on Junk has been characterised by Miggy as the carreer 'WTF?' moment. Adopting an isolationist theory to composing tracks, Monks on Junk came and went leaving head scratching punters and blown speakers across 4 venues. Nominated for Best live Dance act at WAMI 2001, at a time when there were none, Monks on Junk were perplexed at not winning a category that was uncontested. Insomnia fuelled antics compounded by complete disregard for safety, structure and discipline earned Miggy the somewhat dubious reputation as the 'bad-boy' DJ. One embraced by Miggy as he claimed PR was an acronym for 'personal ruin' not 'public relations.' Once asked by X-press magazine in a feature spread of local DJ's- Q (Xpress)-''What do you do when you are not DJ-ing?'' A (Miggy)-"Eat, sleep, get high and have sex" Recidencies at clubs in Perth during the '90's include: The Berlin Club, The Freezer, Elevation, Aqua Late Night Bar & Krush Nite Club.
