National Poetry Month: beta rust [disquiet0067-odysseymachine] by beta-rust published on 2013-04-15T15:25:22Z "Homer / Homard," composited and composed on the 12th floor of the Radisson overlooking the Cincinnati Riverfront. My text-to-speech preference has always trended towards British and female (cf. our old Tom Tom GPS) so that choice was pre-ordained. I ran the original TTS WAV file through Audacity's Paulstretch effect to create a mess of ambient, breathy background noise, then cut and pasted selected bits in layers, adding overdrive, echo, plate reverb and tremolo as needed. The overall mood I was aiming for was call-and-response, with a feeling of building tension and cacophony as the piece progressed. I also was feeling very BBC Radiophonic Workshop here, perhaps because the pitchshifted and stacked vocals sounded very Dalek-like.
