Imaginary Instruments Imaginary Instruments is the duo work of composer/sound artist Mitch Renaud and historical keyboard specialist Katelyn Clark. Formed in 2019 in Victoria BC, the two musicians share a fascination with the materiality of sound and of tuning relations between instruments. In their work, feedback systems of a modular synth combine with early instruments (portatif organ/harpsichord) to draw out unexpected and envisioned sound. They co-compose long duration pieces for live and recorded settings, drawing from historical tuning systems, deep listening practices, and the sonic imaginary.
