Madhava - (Vijay Kannan) Ft. Uma Ramasubramaniam by Vijay Kannan published on 2014-08-30T15:28:00Z A Fusion based on the composition of Papanasam Sivan in the raga Hamsanandi. Credits: Main Melody and Lyrics: Papanasam Sivan Vocals: Uma Ramasubramaniam Music: Vijay Kannan I have known Uma Ramasubramaniam for quite a while and had also been involved in a carnatic music CD (http://ragasurabhi.com/carnatic-music/buy-lalithamritham-audio-cd.html). Recently, Uma and Ram had come to Berlin and had a chance to record a couple of songs. She hosts a website where one can learn about ragas of Indian Music : http://ragasurabhi.com and also teaches carnatic music online. http://ragasurabhi.com/carnatic-music/buy-varnam-lessons.html An interesting aspect about the music I have done for the above piece is the use of Graha bedam (Tonic Shift) in the second interlude. The actual raga of the song is in Hamsanandi. The graha bedam leads it to Hindolam {{ The tonic shift is done when I change the Shadjamam (Sa, tonic note here is G) to the Rishabam of Hamsanandi (G#). Now the swaras of Hamsanandi are S R1 G3 M2 D2 N3 S' Hindolam scale is reached when I play R1 G3 M2 D2 N3 R1' (which when R1 = S becomes S G2 M1 D1 N2 S'). Hamsanandi: G Ab(G#) B C# E F# G' Hindolam: Ab(G#) B C' E F# Ab'(G#') }} Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamsanandi http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hindolam Links to Artiste(s) Uma Ram: Website: http://ragasurabhi.com Subscribe to youtube: http://tiny.cc/ragasurabhi Connect on Facebook: http://facebook.com/ragasurabhi Vijay Kannan: Website: http://AboutIndianMusic.com Subscribe to YT: https://youtube.com/AboutIndianMusic Connect on Facebook: http://facebook.com/FluteVijayKannan Genre Fusion Comment by Amanda Bates I love how she blends with the flute!
