Isaia
L.A.
Isaia was born at the Moto’otua Hospital in Upolu, Samoa, and raised on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. At the age of 10, he started singing in church and began writing songs at 12 years old. As a teenager, Isaia was influenced by his older cousins who listened to Hip Hop and were aspiring MCs in their own right. In high school, Isaia formed a musical group with his friends and soon after, his studies took a back seat to his real passion which was music. In an attempt to curb his teenage rebellion, Isaia was sent back to Samoa to focus on his studies and reconnect with his strict Samoan upbringing. Many say that true passion cannot be denied and it was not long before Isaia reclaimed his musical dreams. Isaia joined a singing group and started rapping again after forming a hip hop crew in Samoa. After completing high school, Isaia traveled to New Zealand to pursue a musical career. When things didn’t pan out in New Zealand, Isaia returned to Hawaii to heal from the wound of a dream deferred. Music, however, was not done with Isaia and on a chance reunion with a high school friend, he was invited to fly to Los Angeles to work with him as an R&B singer. Isaia came to L.A. in February 2004 and has been grinding ever since to make his mark on the LA music scene. He joined the band Chord Brown in 2006 and has performed in many LA venues like Blue Cafe, Mai Tai's, and the House of Blues. It was at these shows that Isaia met (Baby) Downn as they usually rocked the same stage and their appreciation for each other’s talent would eventually lead Isaia to join Gee’rage Music. Isaia has credited Downn, who is both a rapper and vocalist, with being the catalyst for him to reclaim his MC skills. Downn has challenged Isaia to step out of his comfort zone and pursue all of his musical expressions whether it be singing, rapping or both. Throughout his travels in Samoa, New Zealand, California and Hawaii, Isaia has truly embodied the various musical styles from these places which have inspired his sound. His favorite artists include Lauryn Hill, D’Angelo, Earth Wind and Fire, The Escorts, Blue Magic, Blackstreet, and Cee Lo.
