The Lainwave Dialectic by JMS97 published on 2022-03-26T06:30:04Z IF YOU POYO THEN YOU KNOW KNOW -- Glad this project is finally done. I was juggling five or so different songs, wrote piles and piles of lyrics, recorded about as many takes, but NOTHING clicked for me. The weight of Virtu Chaser left me with a massive writer's block that I haven't overcome... until THIS song. I remember... years ago... I mentioned how sometimes I'll agonize over a track for weeks or months until it comes out exactly how I want it, and other times I'll find some wisp of creativity in me that I follow through to the end just for the sake of FINALLY having a grip on that energy again. This song was a bit of both: the instrumental was made months ago, and I have a whole roster of different rap/singing recordings that tried to make use of the beat. I struggled nightly over how to make something I liked: something that sounded vivid in its artistic imagination, and solid in its fidelity of idea. I struggled until I listened to phonk beats; after freestyling on them, I gained a new perspective on how to write and deliver lyrics on a beat. Clearly, it worked well, because the result feels very melancholic and dreamy, but also determined and stoic. I really like how this track ended up. I didn't really mean any ONE way to interpret the lyrics, and that's lead to unexpected readings in my own head when I listen to the song. It could be a sincere recounting of someone's street-splendor, or it could be the delusional ramblings of a dead beat. There's even a Lolita reference... but it's a bit of a reach and I think I'm the only one who'll make that connection. The album cover is not necessarily a troll. I was looking very hard for an aesthetic that I don't think really exists yet. It's exciting, but since I'm not really interested in relearning Photoshop I don't have a way to properly evocate the images and feelings; hell I don't even really have WORDS to describe what exactly I'm "going for" in this new aesthetic style. But I think this album cover is good enough for now. I have a few other options. Lolita may come back up in the imagery, but only in its feminist interpretation. It's been a very fun creative process and I'm glad to finally have it back. I have very few creative friends. I know even fewer people that can understand, perceive, and TALK art. There is one girl who can do it all, so I dedicate this creative undertaking, the source of the emotions that go into the aesthetic imagery, and the finality of this piece to her: Briece! She exists, she infiltrates my spirit, she inspires my sound, and she stands tall in her capabilities and taste in art.
