The title is a term taken from photography. A bit before and after sunrise and sunset, daylight is a bit softer and is perfect for taking photos. This version of the piece was premiered by Dr. Ryan Kelly and the UT Symphony Band on February 20, 2017 at Bates Recital Hall at the University of Texas at Austin. The original work for saxophone octet was premiered on March 12, 2016 in Hemmle Recital Hall at Texas Tech University during the 2016 North American Saxophone Alliance National Conference.
