Le Couleur
Montréal
For the most part, their songs are in French, and are reminiscent of the kaleidoscopic disco of Sébastien Tellier and the pop songwriting of Metronomy. Laurence G-Do, the quebecoise-vietnamese singer, takes on love in both its most naively simple and frustratingly complicated moments.
In 2010, they released their debut album, Origami, which found its way into hearts and blogs in Germany, Italy, Mexico, France and the UK, and propelled them to the top of Quebec’s independent radio charts. Following a meeting with French producer French Fox, Le Couleur approached him to produce their next EP. They also called upon members of French Horn Rebellion to participate in its creation, resulting in a sound that follows in Origami’s footsteps while still breaking new ground. Featuring their original French diso-pop sound, Voyage Love, released in 2013, brought Le Couleur to new levels of international recognition. The EP was warmly received and reviewed by blogs and magazines in over 15 countries and the group was invited to play a number of renowned festivals, including but not limited to Pop Montreal, Liverpool Sound City, and M for Montreal. Voyage Love was also nominated for the GAMIQ (CA) prize in the category “Best EP of the year” and made a number of top 10 lists for 2013.
After a first tour of Europe in 2014, Le Couleur released "Concerto Rock" - the first single from their new EP "Dolce Désir" released in February 2015 in several countries (CD, Vinyl, Digital). After some shows in North America (USA, Canada) and Europe (UK, Germany, France) Le Couleur won their first GAMIQ prize in Canada for "best electronic EP of the year". The band is now working on their first album due for fall 2016.
