30 Years Of Weatherall, a personal choice by Martin Brannagan published on 2020-04-06T07:21:45Z I compiled this in April 2020 ahead of what would have been AWs 57th birthday. Rather than focussing on his remixes I went for the original productions. I've had to have artistic license a couple of years but generally one track per year from 1990 through to 2020. Compiled by Martin of the Flightpath Estate, RIP Andrew and thanks for the music x 31 Years of Andrew Weatherall Please consider paying your respects by donating in his name to one of the charities that was important to him: Amnesty International, Multiple Sclerosis Society, Crisis, Thrombosis UK Links are available on http://www.rottersgolfclub.com Please also consider purchasing or streaming some of his music to support his musical partners and his estate. By April we've already had 14 AW original tracks for the year (3 WRF digitals and the final EP on Byrd Out) and many more to come with more WRF digital singles and the final single on Pamela. How to round off this barely touching the surface career retrospective. Almost went with Unknown Plunderer to end on a bounce but the sublime Somnium from the March digital single brings us to a suitably mellow close. 2020-04-06T15:57:09Z Comment by Martin Brannagan 2019 Fort Beulah N.U. - 005. A quiet year given the guvs recent standards but the last and finest of the Fort Beulahs sits alongside a compilation track 'Cosmonautrix' for this year. the former gets the push here 2020-04-06T15:55:52Z Comment by Martin Brannagan 2018 The Woodleigh Research Facility - Some Nights Should Just Be Weird. A further single for Byrd Out, another Fort Beulah and the limited second WRF LP appeared in 2018. Something from the latter as it's still scarcely available and the beautiful squelching electro of Some Nights Should Just Be Weird 2020-04-06T15:54:42Z Comment by Martin Brannagan 2017 Andrew Weatherall - Spreads A Haze (And A Glory). Qualia, some singles and Fort Beulahs make it a tough choice. Sticking with the album I love the refrains on Spreads A Haze (And A Glory) from Qualia, an outstanding track off what would be his last solo album 2020-04-06T15:53:49Z Comment by Martin Brannagan 2016 Andrew Weatherall - Ghosts Again. The year of AW solo with Convenanza and WRF proper with The Phoenix Suburb. As an album to listen to Convenanza edges it, the track i'd choose depends on the mood. Given the day today and the lyrics i've gone for Ghosts Again 2020-04-06T15:52:29Z Comment by Martin Brannagan 2015 The Woodleigh Research Facility ft. Joe Duggan - Downhill. After Asphodells AW reunited with Nina Walsh and The Woodleigh Research Facility began to appear in 2015 but nothing officially released, a free MP3 for a few and some radio tracks. Downhill ft Joe Duggan is a nice piece of prose with a kick behind it 2020-04-06T15:50:56Z Comment by Martin Brannagan 2014 Friendly Fires & The Asphodells - Before Your Eyes. AW produced Pete Molinari this year but the final couple of Asphodells tracks appeared as well - Before Your Eyes, a collaboration with Friendly Fires finishes off a great couple of years of work for Andrew and Tim 2020-04-06T15:49:55Z Comment by Martin Brannagan 2013 Andrew Weatherall - ONDON. An intriguing collaboration between AW and writer Michael Smith 'Unreal City' is the only release this year with AW providing a CD soundtrack. Ambient, drone pieces accompanied by Michaels book extracts, a haunting ode to London, showing a side to Andrew we don't normally see. ONDON appears here 2020-04-06T15:47:50Z Comment by Martin Brannagan 2012 The Asphodells - A Love From Outer Space (Version 2). The Asphodells, AW and Tim Fairplay didn't stay around for long, just one fantastic album but what an album it was. We have to include one of their versions of A Love From Outer Space just for the sheer importance of that name, for what its meant to our area of clubland in the last 10 years and what it will mean going forward, and the cover version itself is great too 2020-04-06T15:46:43Z Comment by Martin Brannagan 2011 Warpaint - Undertow. zero, nothing, nada. The Anti-Producer credit on The Twilight Sad album doesn't count as he admitted he did nothing. So we'll have to dip back into 2010 becuase it got deluxe re-release in 2011 and Undertow one of AW's produced tracks for Warpaint 2020-04-06T15:44:27Z
