Music has been integral to Taylor Del Villar's life since childhood. Her grandmother was a flamenco dancer, and there were always instruments around the house, including a piano, which Taylor taught herself to play by ear. Her mother, a well-known Long Island musician, also significantly shaped Taylor's relationship with music. She used to sing her to sleep with the song "Crazy" by Patsy Cline, and she was a significant influence on Taylor's decision to pursue music.
Despite being pressured to write her own music, Taylor has always loved performing cover songs and making them her own. She describes her musical style as contemporary indie-folk and enjoys playing acoustic guitar and doing some fingerpicking. Although she enjoys covering songs, she also likes to challenge herself by taking pop songs she dislikes, such as those by Drake and Mariah Carey, and making them her own.
Taylor has found that music has a unique power to bring people together and create powerful, emotional experiences. One of her most memorable performances was at her mother's surprise engagement party, celebrating her mother's life. Taylor's mother had been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer, and everyone who attended knew this would likely be one of the last times they would see her. Yet, despite the sad occasion, the event was filled with love, music, and joy, and Taylor felt privileged to be a part of it.
In addition to performing music, Taylor is passionate about using her videography and visual arts skills to enhance the music she loves. She has created music videos for local bands, including Sun Voyager. She takes great pride in matching the visuals to the lyrics and creating a cohesive, emotionally resonant experience for the viewer.
Although Taylor is her worst critic and sometimes feels like she's not doing enough with her music, she knows that it's an essential part of who she is and brings her joy and a sense of purpose. She hopes to continue performing and creating music, both live and recorded, and to use her visual arts skills to enhance the music of others.
In Taylor's view, music is more than just entertainment or a creative outlet; it's a way to connect with others and create powerful, emotional experiences. Whether performing a cover song or creating a music video, Taylor always strives to develop a sense of connection and shared feeling. Her passion for music and commitment to using her skills to enhance the music of others make her a truly inspiring figure in the Hudson Valley music scene.
