The Last Guardian - Overture: Lore (Score Recreation) by George Christie, Composer published on 2017-02-08T18:37:29Z This is the opening track from Takeshi Furukawa's outstandingly beautiful score for The Last Guardian. From the very first moment I heard this score a few weeks ago, I was utterly captivated by the emotion, delicacy and restraint displayed throughout this score. Furukawa's masterful use of the conventional orchestral palette (as opposed to the electronic/rock/hybrid scores of many other modern games) is wonderfully balanced by his entirely unconventional use of rich harmonic language and exceptionally crafted orchestration. Having enjoyed the score so much, I took the time to recreate it, partly as a technical exercise in studying how he had achieved such beautiful textures, but primarily as an excuse to spend more time with the music. If you have yet to check out the score or game, please do take the time. It is a true masterpiece in gentle storytelling, and a welcome departure from a market chocked with explosive drama and action. The biggest challenge in this recreation proved to be dynamics. Emulating similar feel and movement with programmed instruments required a great deal of manipulation and automation. Genre Soundtrack
