Arturia’s Drumbrute Impact is a quirky little drum machine that has been a strong seller since its inception in 2018. The little brother to the full-sized Drumbrute, the Impact slims down the form factor and number of available sounds while swapping the original’s filter for color and distortion effects. A good value for its low price point, the Drumbrute Impact has robust sequencing flexibility and a very hands-on workflow. Its synthetic sound, which leans towards the lo-fi side of the spectrum, puts it in its own lane away from other machines everyone knows and loves like the TR-808, 909, DMX and LinnDrum.
For the first time ever, I am making many of the sounds from the Drumbrute Impact available online for free to use in your own projects. Included here are AIFF files of each of the 10 sounds, plus the mentronome click, dialed in at numerous parameter combinations. For example, the kick includes 11 different decays with 11 different pitch permutations, leading to 121 samples. Or in the most extreme case, 1330 different permutations of the FM drum.
Oh yeah, I also recorded all the permutations of every instrument minus the FM drum in each of the distortion modes: with no color or distortion, with color and no distortion, with no color and distortion, and with color and distortion. Because there’s over a thousand different permutations of the FM drum, I was only able to do the no color/distortion version otherwise people would think I was clinically insane or something ;)
Sounds included in this pack:
KICK: 121 samples ( x 4 modeling types)
SNARE 1: 121 samples ( x 4 modeling types)
SNARE 2: 121 samples ( x 4 modeling types)
HI TOM: 11 samples ( x 4 modeling types)
LO TOM: 11 samples ( x 4 modeling types)
CYMBAL: 11 samples ( x 4 modeling types)
COWBELL: 1 sample ( x 4 modeling types)
CLOSED HAT: 11 samples ( x 4 modeling types)
OPEN HAT: 11 samples ( x 4 modeling types)
FM DRUM: 1330 samples (no distortion or color modeling)
METRONOME CLICK: 1 sample
I’ve labeled all the files as descriptively as possible, using the following as the naming convention:
“Drumbrute Impact-CL HAT-XX-Tone 01”
CL HAT = name of the sound
XX = denotes if color or distortion are applied; XX has neither, XD just
distortion, CX just color, CD has both
Tone 01 = refers to the specific parameter with 01 to 11 settings; many
sounds have multiple parameters
This ZIP file has the AIFF samples - all 3004 of them - in separate folders organized by sound and distortion type: https://zakimrecordingscom.files.wordpress.com/2022/01/arturia-drumbrute-impact-samples.zip
And this ZIP file has a packaged Ableton folder with all the AIFF samples, organized by instrument per channel in a Live set, with macro controls for each of them to make it easier to dial in sounds on a whim. You can save each sound in your user library for easy access in future projects. Requires Live 11 standard or suite version: https://zakimrecordingscom.files.wordpress.com/2022/01/arturia-drumbrute-impact-ableton.zip
The demo track above is made entirely with sounds from this sample pack and stock effects in Ableton. Also a free download if you want to use as a DJ tool or whatever.
While these sounds paint a good picture of what’s possible on the Drumbrute Impact, it’s still no replacement for the real thing! If you dig using these samples, I highly recommend picking one up and taking it out for a test drive. It’s a powerful, intuitive little machine.
