Alejandro Chellet | The Hickster Oven by Owning Earth published on 2021-06-13T02:28:51Z Alejandro Chellet, The Hickster Oven, 2021. Bamboo, wood, firebricks, firewood, clay, straw, hardware materials, personal objects, sweat, USA VISA, passport, flour, cheese, tears The Hickster Oven is inspired by an already existing and functional oven Alejandro built at Rosekill in Rosendale NY. This piece addresses the current and growing phenomenon of City transplants; the migration of people who lived in the city for many years and have for various reasons decided to change their home base to a more peaceful, greener, spacious, cleaner and safer environment. Please note: Alejandro Chellet is a sculptor and performer who splits his time between Mexico and the Hudson Valley. His work brings people together to share experiences and create community. This piece, The Hickster Oven, was intended to be a warm hearth at the very center of Owning Earth. Sadly, the very boundaries that Alejandro's work aims to overcome have so far prevented him from building his oven. During the pandemic, travel from Mexico to the US became more challenging and Alejandro was unable to secure a visa in time. What you see here is a work in progress. Once Alejandro is able to cross the border again, he will build his oven and bring us together.
