Padna.ADK.Soundbath.23.v3 by padnapadna published on 2024-01-19T15:44:20Z This piece (still untitled) was originally created for sound baths. I did three live sets of this (all intimate, family and friends affairs out in the woods), during which I would use objects found on site to create additional sounds in the moment. I would then record these sounds and mix them into the base track, so that it organically grew with each iteration. This track works relatively well for a sound bath, but many of the piano parts are too short for that experience, so ultimately I decided to just treat this as a recorded piece, which is what we have here. All sounds were recorded on my phone and mixed in GarageBand (low cost!). The piano parts are all recorded at my in-laws, where my father in-law is none too fond of my playing, so I have to run to the piano in rare opportunities, write something, and record it immediately. The found-sound bits are things I pick up around Brooklyn. The city is full of strange, unexplained sounds. “What is that weird drone tone in the distance?” “Where is that scraping coming from?” As my family has grown (2 kids) and my job stays busy, I’ve had to find new ways to create that work with my changing life, and this is very much a reflection of that new place.
