Damien Ó Dónaill – Seán Bán Mac Grianna by Raidió Fáilte published on 2013-03-05T18:37:56Z In this ground-breaking programme Damien Ó Dónaill examines the life and work of the poet and songwriter Seán Bán Mac Grianna from Rann na Feirste, in the Donegal Gaeltacht. Relatively little recognition has been given to Seán Bán Mac Grianna until recently and it could be said that he was often overshadowed by his two brothers, the writers Seosamh Mac Grianna and Séamas Ó Grianna. But with this radio show, and a recent book and television documentary on the subject people are beginning to realise the importance of his work to the Irish singing tradition. Damien who hails from Rann na Feirste himself, was able to use his local knowledge and his knowledge of the Donegal singing tradition to create a programme that is unparalleled in its field. He recounts the life of Seán Bán Mac Grianna through his songs and stories. Most of the recordings used in the show are live and original and feature people from all over Ulster, including Seán Bán Mac Grianna, himself. Genre Irish Language
