The River City Tanlines (the name being a play on the concept of a “farmer tan”) is a three-piece rock band from Memphis, TN.
Alicja Trout, the principle songwriter, is a veteran of countless noteworthy punk/indie bands over the years, including The Lost Sounds (with now deceased Jay Reatard), The Clears (Smells Like Records, Steve Shelley’s label), and her other current projects Sweet Knives, Alicja-pop, and MouseRocket. Likewise, the powerful rhythm section of Terrence Bishop and John Bonds are no strangers to success, having played together behind such names as Jack Oblivian, Kenny Brown, and Rev John Wilkins.
In 2009 they appeared in Craig Brewer’s (Dolemite Is My Name, Coming To America #2) web-series (and soundtrack) for MTV, Five Dollar Cover, and performed “I’m Your Negative” in a roller derby fight scene. They also have a song (“Black Knight,” a crowd favorite at live shows) featured in the EA Sports video game Skate.
Together since late 2004, the band has toured extensively in North America and Europe playing clubs and festivals, and has ten releases on various record labels around the world. Their first full length album I’m Your Negative was released in 2006 by Dirtnap Records out of Portland, OR (now Milwaukee, WI).
Coast to Coast, their last album, was recorded at Money Shot Studios in Water Valley, MS and released in summer 2012 on Big Legal Mess in Oxford, MS.
The Tanlines song “Devil Made Me Do It” was recently featured in Lucifer Season 5 Ep 12 (Netflix). “I Don’t Get It” appeared in Shameless Season 3 Ep 12, and “Gimme All Your Cuts” appeared in Weeds Season 8 Ep 3.
