Having previously released with Tru Thoughts and Tessier-Ashpool, Boot Cycle Audio is where we can find a more experimental, electronic and eclectic Lossy, with works often inspired by live looping jams. A London resident of many years, these tracks are inspired by watercourses within the capital, and consist of a set of solo synthesizer pieces, all played on the Korg Volca Keys. Having made a name for himself with his densely layered and intricate soulful works, the restrictive approach to these new compositions has resulted in an interesting and varied output. We begin with the analogue soundtrack stylings of River Thames, followed by the mystery and intrigue of the hidden River Neckinger with nods towards the Gymnopedies of Satie and oriental flavour to the harmony. Regent’s Canal and River Lea are altogether more playful, sounding in parts like computer game themes, featuring pseudo-classical arpeggios and Radiohead inspired chord sequences. The music is at times ambient and cinematic whilst always pulsing and energetic, revealing Lossy in all of his nerdy muso glory.
