Scruffmouth Kevan Cameron Ottawa Kevan Anthony Cameron graduated from Simon Fraser University in 2003 (BGS '03, CLA '03) after playing four years on the Men's Varsity Soccer team from 1997 through 2000 where he earned All-American Honours and was given the prestigious Honourary Captain's Award. Cameron is an alumni of the Canadian Men's National Team as well as Vancouver Whitecaps Football Club. After a pro soccer career in North America, Kevan Anthony Cameron began to spit his lyrics; SCRUFFMOUTH is the pen, stage, and business name for the spoken dub poetician in literature, orature, media and performance. Kevan Cameron is a full member of UBCP/ACTRA and has appeared in new media, commercials, print, and film/tv as a spoken word poet, soccer player, or just as himself. In 2011, Kevan "Scruffmouth" Cameron was awarded a Canada Council for the Arts Spoken Word Program Grant for a a spoken dub poetry project of lyrical audiovisual liner notes. That project was SCRUFFMOUTH: SPOKEN NOTEBOOK and is showcased on my SoundCloud here. In 2014, Kevan Cameron was awarded a Fulbright scholarship as an Adult Educator for the Youth Ambassadors Program. One of the community service projects Cameron committed to the his work as a cultural diplomat and mentor was HOGAN'S ALLEY POETRY FESTIVAL which was funded by Canada Council for the Arts from 2011 through 2014 in the Lower Mainland, Coast Salish Territories in the historic East End of the traditional lands of the People of the Inlet to celebrate the historic achievement and cultural spaces of Afrodescendants amidst urban renewal schemes of the 20th century.
