Evert Taube made this song 1943.
In a comment to the text, Taube writes "...free interpretation of the Scottish poet Robert Burns' poem with the same subject, A Red, red rose" 1794. Taube thus states Robert Burns as the source.
Evert Taubes swedish text:
Min älskling, du är som en ros,
en nyutsprungen skär,
ja, som den skönaste musik,
min älskade, du är.
Så underbar är du, min vän,
och ser så vacker ut,
och älska dig det ska jag än
när havet sinat ut!
När hela havet sinat ut
och bergen smält till glöd!
Ja, älska dig, det ska jag än
när jorden ligger död.
Min älskling, du är som en ros,
en nyutsprungen, skär,
ja, som den skönaste musik,
min älskade, du är.
Translation of the Evert Taube text:
My darling you are like a rose,
a newly emerged cut,
yes, like the most beautiful music,
my love, you are.
You are so wonderful, my friend,
and looks so beautiful,
and I will still love you
when the sea has run out!
When the whole sea has dried up
and the mountains melted into embers!
Yes, love you, I still will
when the earth lies dead.
My darling you are like a rose,
a newly sprouted, cut,
yes, like the most beautiful music,
my love, you are.
Robert Burns text:
My love is like a red red rose
That's newly sprung in June;
O my Love's like the melodie
That's sweetly play'd in tune;
As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in love am I;
And I will love thee still, my dear,
Till a' the seas gang dry;
Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt with' the sun;
And I will love thee still, my dear,
While the sands o' life shall run.
And fare thee well, my only Love
And fare thee well, a while!
And I will come again, my Love,
Tho' it were ten thousand mile.
