shortsirkit801 Josh Lewis Draper Just when you think there's nothing left to explore in the realm of electro house, ShortSirkit has uncovered a fresh new sound. The Salt Lake City DJ and producer combines elements of numerous genres to yield his vast and layered signature style. Instead of letting preconceived notions dictate his creative process, he lives by the mantra, "Try it, and if it sounds good that's all that matters." He's a maniac behind the decks as well. Although his aggressive style of DJing sees him cycle through upwards of 40 tracks in an hour, he carefully calculates and executes each transition seamlessly. Shortsirkit cut his teeth in the music world as a metal band guitarist. Born Josh Lewis, he moved around throughout Utah with his family as a child, eventually picking up guitar and joining a local band called Abidan. Although they saw considerable local success, they narrowly missed a window of opportunity that would have led to more widespread renown - eventually causing he and his band mates to call it quits. However, Shortsirkit had promised his late mother that he would make music work before her passing, and he was determined to follow through. It was also around this time that he attended his first rave, Dreamland 6, at SLC’s Salt Palace Convention Center. While the hardstyle tracks he heard at the event didn't meet his ear all that well, he ran into his cousin who brought him back to his place and introduced him to drum and bass. When he caught a set by DJ Keoki shortly afterwards he warmed up to electronic music considerably, and then after watching deadmau5 perform at another event he decided to dive in headfirst. It turned out that his frenetic fretwork as a metal guitarist translated into skill behind the decks, and he found himself booked around town in no time. Although his first professional DJ gig took place at SLC nightclub Mojos in 2012, he has performed at such mainstays as The Complex, Saltair and Club Sound in the years since. He's also played SLC's Foam Wonderland in 2014, and travelled to Denver to perform at a Mardi Gras celebration put on by the promoter Nightsneak. Shortsirkit also quickly honed in on his signature style as a producer. He cites an older single titled "Masterclass" as the turning point at which he got the hang of his process in the studio, which then became the late 2016 track "Night Sparks" is a testament to how much his signature sound has come into its own shortsirkit801’s tracks ShortSirkit - Discovery Project: EDC Las Vegas 2024 by shortsirkit801 published on 2024-04-15T23:56:19Z Sensations by shortsirkit801 published on 2024-04-14T23:21:22Z
