I couldn’t sleep through the night. A therapist told me, instead of fighting it, to get up and be creative, because my creativity would be uninhibited at those hours. So, I would wake up around 2 or 3am, sit down at the laptop, cut a sample, build a drum kit, hand play a beat for about 20 minutes, and go back to bed.
After a month, I had thirty roughs. Over the next three years, through three break-ups, a grad degree, three cities, a new career, losing and re-finding myself, refining myself, the result is this tight little audio memoir, crafted in fits and spurts, here and there, on a budget and expectation of zero. The tracks and sounds here remaining are what remnants (snips) that stuck, like the sand on your legs you take home with you from the beach.
I conceived these songs to allow space for the mind to exist within them—there is an empty track for you in the mix. I hope it’s stimulating for you in some way, at the very least, and very most. Enjoy <3
