DAVE ROWNTREE from BLUR makes his debut as a remix artist for emerging and hotly tipped new Bristol band THE CADBURY SISTERS. Aside from Dave's own Blur remixes this is the first remix of an original artist that Dave has ever produced.
Support for The Cadbury Sisters includes being tipped by BBC Radio 1 Huw Stephens as Introducing One To Watch, support form Tom Robinson on BBC 6 Music and sessions from Kathryn Tickell on Amazing Radio.
THE CADBURY SISTERS songs are a meld of beauty, harmony, surprise and intensity. Their tunes are the sonic equivalent of watching Swallows And Amazons or The Railway Children interspliced with The Wicker Man or Lord Of The Flies. THE CADBURY SISTERS release the ‘Close’ EP on 16th June, preceded by lead track, ‘Milk’ with Ben Morse directed video debuting on 7th April via Gigwise followed by the DAVE ROWNTREE remixes of ‘MILK’.
Like all great finds they come with a secret - their great great grandfather was William Cadbury, originator of world famous Cadburys chocolate. Jessica, Mary and Lucy are his direct bloodline and yes, they are all sisters. THE CADBURY SISTERS goal is simple, to take the spirit of traditional English Folk music, infuse its DNA with contemporary contaminates from the likes of Fleet Foxes, Daughter and First Aid Kit then disseminate into the world.
THE CADBURY SISTERS played 20 festivals last year including 2000 Trees, Cambridge Folk, Mosely Folk, Hard Rock Calling and Blissfields and have supported George Ezra, Dry The River, Smoke Fairies, Stornoway, The Staves, Treetop Flyers and Caitlin Rose. Frank Turner declared them ‘My Favourite New band’ from the stage of 2000 Trees Festival while Tom Robinson commented on, ‘their beautiful harmonies and gorgeous vocals’.
The ‘Close’ EP contains five songs. Lead track ‘Milk’ and ending title, ‘Fire’ both showcase burning crescendos that set THE CADBURY SISTERS aside from other generica nu-folkies. ‘Lolita’ and ‘You Choose’ embody the forbidden fruits of lust, covetousness and jealousy, while the delicate ‘Quarry’ hints at early Kate Bush or in its harmonies Pentangle, yet its commerciality firmly evokes ‘Rumours’ era Fleetwood Mac.
Airplay support includes Huw Stephens who tipped the band on BBC Radio 1, Janice Long on BBC Radio 2, Mark Forrest on BBC English Regions (his show is simulcast across 39 BBC Local Radios in England), Shell Zenner, Baylen Leonard, Kathryn Tickell and Bethan Elfyn on Amazing Radio. Tom Robinson BBC 6 Music Introducing Mixtape and his own BBC 6 Music Saturday evening show plus Sam Bonham on BBC Introducing Bristol & The West. THE CADBURY SISTERS debut session for Kathryn Tickell aired on Amazing Radio on 7th April 2014.
