Ikkei Hanada writes about it, "It is used to comfort the souls of the dead." As a further explanation, he states that it is about "turning one's own luck for others," and he related it to flower arranging for the deceased. Tamuke is a very quiet piece, with the first half played entirely in the low register. The Mordent-like ornamentation of head nodding is omitted. Characteristic is the use of the ascending minor sixth, stepped single notes and a descending dotted line. Ikkei Hanada often added the piece "Eko" to Tamuke. Genre Shakuhachi Icchoken
