Poster Boy by VÂN SCOTT published on 2021-05-25T03:48:54Z I remember sharing the demo for “Poster Boy” with my friend, Jesse Carmichael (formerly of Wildcat! Wildcat! and now, Kid Nobody), and having him praise it for its “throwback-y, playful, Queen-ness.” Needless to say, that’s one of the reasons I chose him to co-produce it with me, alongside singer-songwriter, Andy Davis. Much of my original demo made it into the final production, including my electric guitar solo and Beach Boys-style background vocals. Originally, the chorus was: “I’m just a poster boy, whether I like it or not,” commentating on how the evangelical church culture I grew up in held me up to this impeccable, “golden child” status. But the moment I switched from a defeated to a defiant tone with: “I’m not a poster boy,” the song wrote itself. As one of my 2020 single releases, it has quickly become a fan favorite. It also won Honorable Mention in the 24th Annual USA Songwriting Competition. Genre Pop
